Originally named after the natural wax ore, it is now extracted from petroleum in large quantities, mainly composed of long side chain cycloalkanes and a small amount of direct alkane and alkyl aromatic hydrocarbons. It has an amorphous appearance and a strong lipophilic ability, and can form a stable uniform mixture with oil. Insoluble in water, slightly soluble in ethanol, soluble in ether, , turpentine,
carbon disulfide and mineral oil. The coarse products are yellow brown, and the fine products are light yellow or white granules.
