ANSYS and MATLAB Workshop report from Pakistan

Parallel workshops on MATLAB and ANSYS were held at NUST PNEC, Karachi, Pakistan, on 17 and 18 February 2020. The workshops aimed to provide the participants a basic knowledge of these softwares and to make them capable of analysing the design; testing their knowledge as they progressed.

Right from the invention of the wheel, all the things that man has created has a rationale behind it. All the manmade objects that we see around us have an engineering design component.
Engineering design is the use of scientific principles, technical information and imagination in the definition of a mechanical structures, machines or systems to perform pre-specified functions with maximum economy and efficiency. The fundamental elements of the design process include the establishment of objectives and criteria, synthesis, analysis, construction, testing and evaluation. This analysis is done with the help of software.
Our workshops introduced two softwares to our students. IMechE NPSC (NUST PNEC Student Chapter) organises workshops once a year to teach software skills.
In accordance with the Chapter’s revised policies, integration and successful execution of the grand event, for this semester it was presided by two elected event and brand managers:
Ms. Mahnoor Syed (3rd year, Bachelors in Engineering)
Ms. Iqra Irshad (3rd year, Bachelors in Engineering).
Learning from previous experiences, the team managed to conduct interactive classroom drives and a well-planned social media campaign to let people know about it more. The event was arranged in the university’s Computer System Department (CSD) labs.
The event started with an opening briefing from Ms.Mahnoor Syed in ANSYS workshop and from Ms. Iqra Irshad in MATLAB workshop. Then two hours workshop was conducted by respective instructors:

Mr. Muneeb Vohra (4th year student)
Both instructors are well versed in the respective softwares as they have also used them in their final year projects.
The event was concluded with the distribution of participation certificates by instructors and event managers and with the ending note from the Student Chair, Mr. Shaikh Adeem Ahmed.
